For more than 30 years, Loren Nancarrow educated and enlightened San Diego T.V. viewers with his vast knowledge of Earth and its climate on ABC 10 News, CBS 8 News and Fox 5 News. Loren was an outspoken conservationist and environmentalist who was not afraid to air his (sometimes controversial) opinions about our planet. As a weatherman, anchor and reporter, Loren was a 5-time Emmy winner and 4-time Golden Mic winner. Nancarrow was also the co-author of 4 organic gardening books with Random House.
Loren lived in San Diego’s North County with his wife, Susie, the owner of Nancarrow Realty Group in North County, and their pets. They have three kids Graham (25), Hannah (24) and Britta (20).
Loren was diagnosed with stage III terminal brain cancer (Anaplastic Astrocytoma) in early February of 2013. He retired from his position as anchor on the Fox 5 evening news and he and his daughter, Hannah, co-authored this blog as a way of sharing his journey with thousands of friends and supporters.
After a courageous 11 month battle, Loren passed away on December 28, 2013. He is incredibly missed. You can read his obituary here.
Loren: Hello old friend, it has been many years since we have last spoken, I believe the last time we saw each other was in Portales New Mexico and I was your cameraman while you described a oil well fire ragging below, I have been living in Vermont since 1989 working as an Executive Director for a Regional Planning Organization, so I share your concern for the environment. I have been married for over 25 years and have two sons: Conor (24) and Sean (22). I ‘m sorry to hear about your cancer, my sister has been battling cancer for over 8 years and I believe with strong support from friends and family you will win the battle. Then he gets discouraged when he would not get rid of nearly anything! He finally allow me choose around his food arranging and about freaked when he saw the amount food stuff I needed him to consume….BUT….It truly is Doing the job! Take in nearly all of your energy from the morning/early afternoon and established a time during the night that you choose to cease having (for us it is eight:00). It sounds nuts to take in far more to 2 Day Diet http://www.2daydietcapsulesale.com/ but it seriously does work!
Besser on Good Morning America warns thbat this is nott a new drug, but a combination of two drugs that
have been on the market for several years. Hence taking this pill is accompanied
by change in lifestyle ‘ healthy food and proper exercise, in order to prevent the

Your experiences and those of some of your bloggers are amazing and provide me with the hope and strength to meet my daily challenges. Thank you all so much.

I am blessed with a dear friend who gave me a subscription to Daily Word. When I read it, I always find inspiration. September’s message
” I am divine energy, I am unstoppable”… the message of inspiration made me think of you Loren. You have been, and continue to be a man of much inspiration, to many people…including me.
Excerpts from this month’s Daily Word via Chaz Wesley…
“Illness is not greater than the whole of our being…
Our body’s ability to heal will come from knowing it is possible, and giving it permission to do so.”
Woof and Well Wishes!

thinking of you, reading your blog now and finding such courage
Having lost my 11 year old daughter to brain cancer I know all too well the rollercoaster you and your family are on. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Let me know if I can help in any way,

Dear Loren and Susie, Wanted to add my voice to the hundreds of folks wishing you well. I’ve worked for 30 years in the field and am also the survivor of a stage four cancer. From that vantage point, I witness the glory of simultaneously being ready for God AND being steward of your body life 1000%. I respect the posture you take. And, Loren, from your TV audience, I am grateful for your exceptional good humor and brave advocacy. Bless your hearts!
I believe you can beat this thing.. go holistic, organic, go to a mexican cancer clinic… do whatever you have to do.. hang in there… your so inspirational.. and many many prayers going your way to our powerful creator, Jehovah… May you continue your journey with the Nancarrow grace and power designed for you and your precious family… hugs…
Mr. Nancarrow, ever since I heard about your condition I’ve been trying to remember the details of an article I read not too long ago about a Greek man a few decades ago who, having been diagnosed with terminai cancer here in America, went back to his home island in Greece to spend his remaining days, ate the food there, and wound up curing himself naturally with the diet there and living many more decades until this very day (and outliving the American doctors who’d diagnosed him!). After googling the name of that island, I found out the name: Ikaria. As for the food I am not certain. I believe the article mentioned “powerful, cancer-killing green foods,” but can’t remember the name. Actually, the site I just read now about that Greek man/Ikaria mentioned a number aspects of that diet, plus some social cultural aspects as well. For the details I just found, here’s the site: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/magazine/the-island-where-people-forget-to-die.html?pagewanted=all
What I’m writing here is probably reiterating what many other people have said on this blog about cancer being curable through diet. But I found that article about Ikaria so profound and hopeful that, when I heard about your situation, I really thought you should know.
I and my mother wish you the best of luck, I/we hope you can beat this and be around with your family, the FOX news team and San Diego for many, many more years! Richard
You are NOT alone in your fight!
You are NOT alone in your fight.
You are missed, Walter is doing a good job, but he is not Loren Nancarrow.
Just a quick note to you. I have a benign brain tumor. I read everything I could get my hands on researching this foreign thing called a “meningioma.” When I read about you, I thought of a book I read that you and your wife might find helpful. It is called “The Power of Two” written by Brian & Gerri Monaghan. Brian Monaghan was a well-known trial lawyer here in San Diego who has had brain cancer for the past 13 years or so. The books tells about all their research and everything they have done to beat this beast. The good news is he is still beating it 🙂
Thanks for all the years of great broadcasting. We discovered last April that my then 38-year-old daughter had frontal oligodendroglioma…they opened her up, declared it inoperable and we were given the ‘make final arrangements’ speech. But we contacted Moores…in a second surgery, Dr. Chen removed the tumor, she recently completed several months of radiation and chemotherapy and is now on monthly chemotherapy under the care of Drs. Piccioni and Kesari. Even though a stroke accompanied the original surgery, she fought her way back and is doing well. The only lasting effect is diminished eyesight. She recently was able to go back to work at the Library at a local high school. We are all in this fight together. Sending out prayers and positive thoughts to you and everyone else who needs them.
I see you Back At Work And Saying Does Anyone Wan t To Buy An RV♡♥
Stay inifamrtove, San Diego, yeah boy!
Hi Loren,
My husband, Allen was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (stage 4) brain cancer in May of 2011. He just had his 5th resection, brain surgery last Friday. He is under the care of Dr. Kesari and Dr. Piccioni at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center.
I’m reaching out to you not only because our family has been going through this terrible disease, but have watched close friends suffer from it too (people met in the brain tumor foundation and by coincidence). I am firm believer that one of the reasons Allen has beat the prognosis so far is because of the advocacy and research I (and family) have done. His quality of life is definitely deminishing, but I have not given up hope. Allen was the first patient on quite a few trials at UCSD, such as ICT107 and Tocagen. In fact he was interviewed by Bloomberg news for Tocagen because at first he had positive results.
It is so important to have Caris and Foundation One test your tumor tissue for genetic profiling (if you have surgery). They can help lead a path to what possibly is the best chemo/ medication depending on your tumors genetic make-up.
Oops, it posted before I could finish…. At any rate, know that your not alone. Nor is your wife or children. I am always available to answer any questions you or your wife may have.
I wish you all the best in your fight!!! Please email me directly anytime you would like.
We have a CaringBridge page: parkesplace.
Best,

I am here feeling sorry for my self home mod turned down sale date May 3 they are turning off my sdge and my cap just feel of as I was eating pop corn and I am losing hope for tommorow but Susie I admire the love you show for the great person next to you You will have him for a long ♡long♡ Time
Hi Loren, I hate to see people die prematurely because of ignorance. It amazes me that the news is not sreading the cure for cancer. Are you working for the medical association or the drug companies? PLease dont. The internet site searches such as The Rick Simpson Cure, hemp cures, and marajuana cures cancer shows 2 brain cancers cured in children, prostate cancer and certain skin cancers cured and normalizes diabetic insulin levels. Sorry, but this information only comes from testimonial of scientist, chemist and loving people.Get well soon. Spread the cure.
Cancer is completely curable, 100%. Using diet alone. I know from first hand experience. The chemo, the radiation, and the surgery is what kills the person. I can provide many testimonials from people who have had cancer, including brain cancer, who are now healed from cancer. Cancer is curable – but it is also big, big money for the medical profession, and they do not want a cure. And it is never to late to cure yourself of cancer cells, again with just diet. I would be happy to provide the information and books to you at no charge or expectations, other than to help.
The problem with some people as they get older is their bodies do not absorb the necessary nutrients from diet alone. A few healers are administering transdermal creams with proper nutrients to bypass the malabsorbtion problems many people have. Of course, the Rick Simpson’s hemp oil revitallizes the proper functioning of the organs including the stomach. o
Loren,
I was shocked and upset to learn about your recent cancer diagnosis. We’ve watched you in our home for many years and even though we don’t know you personally it seems like you’re part of the family and when I came across this blog, I knew I had to reach out. Cancer is curable! You might want to look into the Gerson Therapy for treatment. I included a link to the website, I hope you will find it useful. I do not have all of the details regarding your cancer, but this may be worth your time.
Why keep it a secret…spread the word now…what are the names of the books, etc. If just diet cured cancer, we would all be cancer free. I think it is a little more complicated than that. (I am a mom watching her son battle brain cancer)…
I am so glad that I was watching Fox 5 this morning and saw Loren Nancarrow whom I was wondering why he has not been in the nightshow in the last couple of months. I am battling cancer, in the last 10 years and can relate to his journey. I will keep him in my prayers too and so glad I have a blog to read and feel I belong somewhere. I can relate to everything Loren writes about. Keep up the faith. It is a tough ride but one where you will see so much beauty behind all the not so beautiful. God be with you and your family.

Dear Loren,
I am glad to see that you are dealing with Mr. Blob in your usual humorous way! I will be praying for you and your family as you go through this time of dealing with this unwelcome intruder. I wonder if there is a natural concoction that we can come up with to erradicate Mr. Blob. Would love to know how you are doing and what progress you have made. Blessings! Jill
Thanks for taking the time to follow my blog. You have many touching stories here. Might be time for another pedicure…
Be well.

Having nothing but good thoughts for you and your family on your journey. ..and you know how to travel in style – did you know that one of the “Pantone” colors for spring is Monaco Blue. Your fingernail polish looks like it to me.
Monaco Blue is the color of the spring 2013 collections. It is a shade that falls somewhere in between bright cobalt and sapphire blue “with a shot of sparkle.” ( I know you are up on all of the “Pantone” colors! ☺☺)
I hope that the shot of sparkle will give you some fun along the way.
thinking of you -Cigi
I have always loved your reporting and am sending my positive energy your way – I am not sure if I posted before, but if you haven’t seen the book “The Power of Two” by Brian and Gerri Monaghan, a San Diego couple with a similar experience to what you are going through, please read it- it is very helpful in technical and spiritual terms, good for the entire family and very encouraging. I would send it directly but I don’t know your address – I am still waiting to hear about the worms! xoxo
Loren, My husband and I are both cancer survivors. My husband had a reucrrence of prostate cancer 7 years after surgery to remove the prostate. He was fortunate to have found the proton therapy center at Loma Linda for treatment. it was a lifesaving and wonderful experience for him. Proton therapy is highly targeted radiation treatment that focuses on the area of the cancer, goes in and stops there without exposing the surrounding tissue. It;s purpose is to limit damage to areas outside of the cancer. His PSA counts have been in the zeros since then, which was about 7 years ago.
I know that Dr. Rossi , who was his doctor, is now heading up the proton therapy center at Scripps. I would definitely reccomend a second opinion by him for radiation treatment vs surgery.
God bless you in whatever you decide is best for you.
Thank you for so many, many hours of education and humor provided to us through your wisdom. I enjoy watching you no matter what station or venue you embrace. May you have a speedy journey beating the beast. Going through breast cancer with my sister-in-law has shown what a loving family’s support can help to conquer. Your wife and daughters are beautiful, by the way. Good luck and lots of prayers.
Hope you consider checking out an alternative treatment for brain cancer. The information for the Burzynski Clinic can be found at http://www.burzynskiclinic.com. Good luck.

I had HIFU done in MX for Prostate Cancer and this works!
Loren, I read about you today in the UT. Hang in there. I was diagnosed with a GBM five years ago this coming August. My primary chemo was avastin and I’ve been off that for over a year.
If you are interested I’ll send you my progress, but I don’t want it “posted” on the blog or internet.
Dear Loren, I just read in this mornings UT article what is happening with you and why I haven’t seen you on the tele in your anchor spot. (I’m 91 years old and at that jumping off place so I wouldn’t have even known to try and look you up on the internet. My daughter is writing this for me. I don’t have a clue as to what blogging even is!) You have been my gardening guru for many years. I come from a long line of organic farmers so unbeknownst to you, you have been my friend for many, many years! In fact, my daughter took me to Anderson’s of Leucadia a few years back on my birthday and found you wondering around. She brought you to me as I get around these days with a walker with its own seat and was seated, admiring some interesting succulents at that moment. What a wonderful surprise it was to get to meet you! My bucket list has gotten shorter these days, as I continue to push out my expiration date. What an absolute joy it was for me to meet you…and…on my birthday in a garden!!! There are so many blessings that grace our paths no matter how long a journey we’re given. Embrace each one, Loren, from the bee’s… to family and friends that buzz around us. Joy is the secret gateway to strength…thank you and God bless. Joyce A. Frisk
Loren
I would like to start this by saying ” Thank You”. For the last 30 years you have taken the people of “America’s Finest City” on quite an amazing journey. San Diego loves and misses you!
And now, for you to decide to share with us your very ” personal journey”, well that, I think that is pretty amazing too.
It was 1980, I was 17 and lived in Encinitas. My friends used to think I was weird because I always wanted to watch the news and this was the era of MTV. What would they have thought if I told them I read the Newspaper too.( Remember the old days, before the computer)? A lot of my friends had no idea what was really going on outside their bubble.
So I am 50 years old now and I never stopped watching the news. And to be fair, I watch both Channel 10 and Channel 8 every night.( I loved it when they came out with the DVR) To me you have always been like a “Local” that I see everyday. I remember thinking that the older reporter’s must finally be retiring, because they were finally being replaced with younger people.
I have watched you evolve as a reporter over the years, always did like your style.of reporting. And I kinda felt like I grew up with you over the years..In my 20,s, before you were married my friends and I would see you and Micheal Tuck down on
” Restaurant Row” in Cardiff or “The Wrinkle Room” ( The Del Mar Cafe). Thats what we called it.
Then you married Susie, who was one of the nicest girl’s that I went to San Dieguito High School with.. I was so happy to hear that. Not sure when you switched to Channel 8,but I have watched you do so much for San Diego over the years with your great reporting, humor and then the wisdom over the years started being shared. Then seeing you and your family over years at various North County locations.Always looking so happy. Loren, to me you are a “Local Hero’ and I cant wait to have you back on the News. Yikes now I have to watch Channel 5 tool.
Never stop doing what you do best, Sharing! Thank You
North County Local
Hi, Loren,
Hershell Price here. Remember me from the Hwy. 680 days when we were developing the property now known as The Bridges? Anyway, I am married to Pam Slater-Price and we now reside in Del Mar. We were both shocked to read about your cancer situation this morning in the UT. You have always been one of my favorite news reporters but I must be honest and say that I have lost track of you over the past few years. I do remember when Suzie started selling real estate and did quite well from the beginning. I – like everyone else, I suppose – knew you resided in Olivenhain and I think I remember attending a party t your home way back when.
You have always been an uplifting and positive spirit and have had the ability to touch most people’s souls. With the support of Suzie, your family and friends, you will get through this. Miracles continue to happen every day and better drugs and therapies are always on the horizon. Keep the faith as you have always done and continue to wear your “now famous” cobalt blue.
PS. Pam says hello too and wants to thank you for your support of the environment. As someone said, the environment is like an alcoholic, it is never saved, it is always being saved!

I think I’ve only told Bob (my husband) a frioatcn of what went on there. So much happened. So many great memories and the work, AYEEE! Great work, great focused work. Like I told Kris, if I could’ve started another 15 days right after, I would have. I did manage to tell Bob that even though we were getting on average 4 hours of sleep a night, the instructors were reading all of our work. It’s daunting really how much work you guys did for us. Very humbling experience. Life-changing. There’s no way anyone will ever be able to thank you enough. Well, maybe one way, follow your lead and keep writing All my best always! -Susan
It was dark when I woke. This is a ray of sunshine.
Now I’m like, well duh! Truly thankful for your help.
Loren, so wonderful to see how well-loved you are! You have always been a favorite of mine since 1994. You saw me with my son at Soup Plantation on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and told me “Your child is beautiful!” with that wonderful smile of yours. I could tell you meant it. It is a treasured memory.
Keep smiling and keep the faith. Miracles DO happen!

Safety Group Blows Lid on ‘Secret Virus’ Hidden in GMO Crops
Natural Society
Yet another disturbing reason has emerged as to why you should be avoiding health-devastating genetically modified organisms, and it may be one of the most concerning yet. We know that GMO consumption has been linked to a host of serious conditions, but one thing we are not so sure about is the recent discovery of a hidden viral gene deep within genetically modified crops.
For years, GMOs have been consumed knowingly and unknowingly around the globe, with Monsanto and the United States government claiming that the altered franken crops are perfectly safe despite very limited (or virtually none in some cases) initial testing and scientists speaking out against the dangers. One such danger that has actually not been spoken about has been revealed in a recent report by a safety watchdog group known as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
In the EFSA report, which can be read online, you can find (within the scientific wording) that researchers discovered a previously unknown viral gene that is known as ‘Gene VI’. What’s concerning is that not only is the rogue gene found in the most prominent GMO crops and about 63% of GMO traits approved for use (54 out of 86 to be precise), but it can actually disrupt the very biological functions within living organisms. Popular GMO crops such as Roundup-Ready soybeans, NK603, and MON810 corn were found to contain the gene that induces physical mutations. NK603 maize, of course, was also recently linked to the development of mass tumors in rats.
According to Independent Science News, Gene VI also inhibits RNA silencing. As you may know, RNA silencing has been pinpointed as vital for the proper functioning of gene expression when it comes to RNA. Perhaps more topically, it is a defense mechanism against viruses in plants and animals alike. On the contrary, many viruses have developed genes that disable this protective process. Independent Science News reports that the Gene VI is one such gene.
Overall, there is a degree of knowledge on Gene VI. What we do know going by information within the report is that the gene:
Helps to assemble virus particles
Inhibits the natural defense of the cellular system
Produces proteins that are potentially problematic
Makes plants susceptible to bacterial pathogens
All of which are very significant effects that should be studied in depth by an independent team of scientists after GMO products are taken off the market pending further research on the entire array of associated diseases. And that does not even include the effects we are unaware of.

Just a bit a encouragement about cancer…
1) I had Renal Cell carcinoma and prostate cancer at the same time. Given an 8% survival estimate I was told to prepare for a protracted hospital stay. Surgeries and treatments and 5 years later I am 100% cancer free.
2) My brother in law had stage 4 esophageal cancer (2% survival rate), 9 years later he surfs every day.
Neither of us was ready to go. Every time you hear your mental/emotional attitude
makes a difference BELIEVE IT!
Survival happens.
I definitely was one of those saying “Where in the world is Loren Nancarrow”. Just found out and am totally “gobsmacked”. Many prayers and get well wishes from a Loren fan of many years … come back to my living room soon! There is an empty space there that needs to be filled.
Miss your wonderful smile,
Joan Webb
Dear Loren, I’ve lived in NY City for quite a few years now, but I grew enjoying your newscast. I’m a fellow cancer survivor myself, and sir, I like your attitude. What makes a difference in any given matter is WHO we are being. You are clearly being brave and badass, and that is very inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us, and I wish great fulfillment.
Love and light,
Joseph Spaid
Healing prayers with love and light. You will love every National Park and they will return the favor..
Heather, this brought tears to my eyes. I am tyinrg to wrap my brain around what it is truly like to send your child off to the next chapter in their life. Although we understand the importance of doing so, I imagine it comes with its fare share of grief as well as happiness. Thank you for sharing this! Miss you!
Can you post those brief black-background powerpoint intro voieds that MESH created/used at the start of each day? (e.g. the ones with the quotes, etc.)THANKS!
I have been an admirer of yours for many years as well as my 93 yr. old Mother in Law. Love your humoe and your smile and the great tips over the years…when we would see you on TV, it was like being with a good friend!..Bless you in your recovery Loren….we keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Lorali told me about you….When at the depths of the barell …you suffer…remember many people love you and are cheering you….I am new to the list but in many ways feel like an old friend……respectfully. Claude
Hi Loren,
Just a brief message to wish you well. We were neighbors many years ago in Poway and would wave at each other occasionally. My dear friend, Cindy Gilcrest, told me about your challenge, and I told her I wanted to write you to express my support. I f you ever find yourself with questions or confusion with respect to radiation or nuclear medicine testing, it would be an honor to answer them for you. It is the least I can do after all the years of pleasure you have brought to me.
Get well and keep your wonderful sense of humor,
Mike Kipper
Clinical Professor of Radiology, UCSD
Dear Loren…moved from San Diego to Michigan 5 years ago, but still remember your broadcast..you are the best. I did recover from cancer when I was younger, big part of it is in your head to survive, the other is support of family and friends…I know you will come out strong..good luck my friend…you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers..
Ditto what Connie just said! Connie and the gang at The San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation has been invaluable for our family when my husband reluctantly joined the tumor club. He developed his own ways of staying focused and coping with all of the steps in treatment and living life, but he also got a lot out of the insights, tips and “tricks of the trade” that other folks shared. I, the wife-turned-caregiver (fondly referred to as “Nurse Ratchett”) probably got even more from the group in terms of just good old support from people who understand in a way that even our dear friends and family couldn’t. Our kids felt better knowing that Mom and Dad had amazing back up during such a hairy time. We hope you and your family stay calm and strong, and keep reaching out to your “peeps”!
Sue Guarnotta
PS Your Christmas tree recipe has been a staple in our house for years!
Dear Loren – Keep the faith – you are inspiring to all. Your sense of humor will keep you going. I have the San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation here in town in honor of my husband. We provide all kinds of services to people who have been diagnosed with a tumor. We have a great monthly support groups with patients, friends and family who have been down this journey you are experiencing – many people in our group call their life journey “tumor humor”. You are a survivor and there are many here to support you. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Connie R. Campbell
Praying for a quick ending to your relationship with Blob. Doubtful your beautiful wife and family and friends wanna share you with Blob.
My Uncle Loren has always been a great guy. Even though I have not seen him in many years I can still see his funny face. Miss you and stay well!!
