Where is it?! It should’ve been here days ago. Maybe it was lost in transit. Maybe it’s lying low somewhere waiting to jump out and catch me off guard. I checked the mailbox—nothing there. I didn’t find it in my missed calls or in my text messages. And I thought rebooting my dilapidated iPhone would surely reveal it’s ugly little head—but nope. I refreshed my email and scanned Facebook thinking it was probably hiding somewhere in the dingy, dark corners of the internet. Still nothing. Where could it be?! I’ve got to find it before it finds me.
The last few months have been incredible. There have been sandy beach days, hearty, inappropriate laughs and lingering life lessons—-punctuated by brutal, stomach-stomping, life-altering bad news. And according to the schedule: bad news is long overdue. But it’s nowhere to be found.
Fueled with the best possible MRI results, Dad, Mom and Graham headed out for Yosemite. I anxiously awaited Mom’s signature late-night-emails, offering up the news of the day. They never came. In fact, aside from a single crackly voicemail and a stream of scenic photos, I haven’t heard anything from the road trippers. Instead, I hear Kathleen Bade’s familiar voice in my head, chanting no news is good news! (an ironic catchphrase coming from a newswoman).
Even so, I spent the past week living in a perpetual calm before the storm. Bad news had to be brewing, right? Yeah yeah, I know we’ve all been told in a variety of inspirational ways that we should dance in the rain—but I have like ZERO rhythm, plus I’m overtly opposed to being cold and damp.
So, in hopes of bracing myself for impending doom, I was suspicious of every email and every encounter with a friend. I thought surely this is the bad news I’ve been waiting for. I lingered on phone calls just a little longer, waiting for the Oh by the way…I’ve got some bad news. But the bad news never came. Instead, I found myself bombarded with good news (and lots of it!): A baby born, a test passed, a deal made, a race finished and a tumor shrinking.
I know, bad news will inevitably come again. But the good news about bad news is there’s an antidote for it—and it’s good news. If bad news is a storm, then good news is a windbreaker. Good news is a cushion, a brace, a shield. Good news softens the blow, so bad news isn’t all that bad. And I found that as soon as I stopped fearing the worst, I was able to appreciate the best. So bring on the howling wind and drenching rain—I’ve got on my windbreaker and I’m ready to dance!
xoxo

That is wonderful news! My brother John left work at Carlsbad Lexus last Wednight night to be taken to the hospital after a bad headache. His MRI showed a brain tumor. He was then transported to Scripps La Jolla to have brain surgery on Thursday. They could only remove part of the tumor. He is not at home healing. His next appointment Monday will tell him what type of cancer it is and what his treament plan will be. John is only 52 and runs, bikes, climbs mountains, very active. Hoping he will have good news like you.
Sweet!!!!! Looking forward to redaing them all over and over again! Rhyn’s Redemption can’t get here fast enough though *flails* I’m reredaing the first two in anticipation then I’ll reread the War of the Gods series for when The Grey God comes out!^_^
Shoot, so that\’s that one suppeoss.
Sweet Hannah, I finally was able to stop from my challenged life and read your post. Timing is everything. So the incredible lesson it seems is that in order to put on the windbreaker of good news to face and buffer the bad… Is to put on the windbreaker… To see the good in life. How key that is, to be in the present and breath in the good. This is what speaks to me, to pause and fully take in all of the good, the blessings in life. This shouldn’t be hard but for some of us (me) it is a challenge… then I get swept away in the storms and suffer. Your post blessed a soul this morning, for that I am grateful. I am so sorry for this life challenge you and the family are enduring. So for today, the Nancarrows are helping all of us soldier on in life. We are like one big family, because your readers love you and your dear dad and all the family more as you all have invited us into your world and sharing your lessons of life. Bless you. And when the rain is pounding, breath in the knowledge of the legions of folks who are cheering on the Nancarrows. Eager to hear from you and your dad very soon. xoxox
🙂
Wonderful blog! Nothing better than getting the news that the tumor is shrinking. Mine shrank 80% in 5 weeks. Happy news. May your fathers news continue down that path. I’m praying for you all.
Beautiful Blog! Happy thoughts for all of you!
There are certainly a lot of detials like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
All good out here. The scenery is amazing, the company perfect, and the hiking is challenging but strengthening. Be home soon. Nice blog HJN!
Would you happen to have any fmaily photo’s that were taken in Sterling that you would be willing to share? I live in Sterling and am interested in the history. Any photo’s that also include buildings are of interest.I remember your Aunt Francis and Uncle Dugan and Butch, they lived down the road from me when I was growing up.
Lizzy, you are evil! That is because you have crtaeed more suspense and we have to wait longer to get the full story. You are awesome! That is because you have decided to continue to expand the story of the life of Katie and Rhyn. It feels so great to know that the journey does not end now but a new series will continue. I love reading about Rhyn and Katies tribulations. I wish you success in writing these books. I know I will enjoy every single chapter of each book.

( I read Hellion & Hope again Wed & Thurs so I’m all up to date for Saturday)Second thkans for the warning on the ending, although part of me was oohh’ (with a groan) at least it isn’t the main characters I guess I HATE it when authors kill off one of the two main people in the book. Thanks for the great stories Lizzy!

This really is sorts of away issue hoevwer might need some assistance through an established weblog. Your blog site offered all of us practical info to be effective on. You have done a fantastic job! I used to be reading through some of your articles here and that i consider this site is actually informative.
I think you should conspire with Jimmy Buffett and write a song. Title it The Good News about Bad News. I can hear singing it now!!!
I hope the bad news stays far from you and that you will dance in the glorious June gloom of San Diego… wonderful post…. DAF
Oh Hannah, KEEP ON DANCING! AND LAUGHING AND SING AT THE TOP OF YOUR VOICE! I wish you well Kid! You are a real trooper.☺
Hannah…you are so your father’s daughter. May there be no bad news in your future!
Since there is so many fields of sceeialtips that I have a choice of, I still really can’t choose one. So I am going base on my personal experiences. My original goal back in high school and maybe even before that, was to work in a Neonatal ICU! I had a brother that passed before he had his first birthday from heart complications, and that year I spent a lot of time at hospitals with my parents. My goal the first couple of years was to work with babies just like him. That was until I had my own children, I would of still loved to have worked in that career field but the heart ache I would most likely endure when one of those babies did not make it home. I could not have handled! On to more positive experiences, I have worked with the elderly and Geriatrics interests me very much. Being surrounded with people that have lived a fulfilled life is so much more rewarding. Even though at times it is the ending stages of their lives, and it is sad when someone does pass. It’s less of a heartache to know that most of the time they are ready to move on. They are still very dependent on you and when you are able to help them with their needs that’s the most rewarding of all, plus you form a special relationship with the patients and their families.
Love this Hannah! Wish I could give you a big hug! Keep hanging in there and keep writing, you are so good at it! You must make your dad tear up every time he reads your blog! ❤
Hannah, we all need these wise words you share. Thank you!
We need not wait for light to turn red…but instead just put the pedal to the metal when it’s green..and ENJOY the moments, the days…
I hope you and your brave, beautiful family continue to enjoy the “green light” to it’s fullest!

Eloquently put, Hannah. As your family struggles with Loren’s health issues, remember one thing. Tomorrow is promised to no one. So even though we all plan for the future, it’s just as vital to live in the moment and thank the Lord for each day and the company of our friends, families, and love ones.
Hannah,
You express yourself beautifully! Thanks for sharing about your feelings and your dear father. You both have many fans and supporters!

Who cares if I don’t have rhythm? Who cares if I sing like Kathleen Bade? I, like you, will keep on dancing and singing because the ones we love, love to hear us happy. Keep it going, Hannah!
The good news is you realize that life is a present and you are opening it day by day. You are an inspiration because watching a young lady handle with such grace, what she has been hand is a beautiful thing. I know your family is proud of you!
Your post captures the issue perfectly!
Beautifully written. 🙂
The good news is, Loren is LIVING his life…unless reported to the contrary….and gratefully, there have been no reports.
Hannah, you are an amazing writer, thank you for sharing your thoughts and your family’s journey with us…..big hugs and prayers
I think you are a wonderful writer
and I love reading your blog! Appreciating you and your dad.
I have seen many useful tghnis on your site about computers. However, I have the judgment that notebook computers are still not nearly powerful adequately to be a good option if you often do jobs that require plenty of power, such as video editing and enhancing. But for net surfing, statement processing, and most other common computer work they are just fine, provided you can’t mind the tiny screen size. Thanks for sharing your notions.
That’s really thinking of the highest order
I had to stop and reflect when I got to the words ” A tumor shrinking”. Could it possibly be the good news your family has been waiting for? Our thoughts and prayers are with your dad, mom and family every single day.
Wishing only good news to you and your family. We are all praying for your dad and family.
Your prayers are being heard.
I love your blog and so timely as my friends and I just lost a friend.
I love your blog and so timely for my friends and I as we just lost a friend.
Well just know “I’m dancing” how fricken awesome! You and your family are a true blessing.
Thanks for the good news. All of San Diego is praying for your dad.
Love it! Bring it on! I want to see floods of great water, not just the rains!!! And put out the buckets to catch all that good water. I learned that from you! :):)
Isn’t no news delightful?
Sweet girl, you are killing me with these poetic post…well done dear daughter of our incredible shrinking tumor man…well done.
