Where is it?! It should’ve been here days ago. Maybe it was lost in transit. Maybe it’s lying low somewhere waiting to jump out and catch me off guard. I checked the mailbox—nothing there. I didn’t find it in my missed calls or in my text messages. And I thought rebooting my dilapidated iPhone would surely reveal it’s ugly little head—but nope. I refreshed my email and scanned Facebook thinking it was probably hiding somewhere in the dingy, dark corners of the internet. Still nothing. Where could it be?! I’ve got to find it before it finds me.
The last few months have been incredible. There have been sandy beach days, hearty, inappropriate laughs and lingering life lessons—-punctuated by brutal, stomach-stomping, life-altering bad news. And according to the schedule: bad news is long overdue. But it’s nowhere to be found.
Fueled with the best possible MRI results, Dad, Mom and Graham headed out for Yosemite. I anxiously awaited Mom’s signature late-night-emails, offering up the news of the day. They never came. In fact, aside from a single crackly voicemail and a stream of scenic photos, I haven’t heard anything from the road trippers. Instead, I hear Kathleen Bade’s familiar voice in my head, chanting no news is good news! (an ironic catchphrase coming from a newswoman).
Even so, I spent the past week living in a perpetual calm before the storm. Bad news had to be brewing, right? Yeah yeah, I know we’ve all been told in a variety of inspirational ways that we should dance in the rain—but I have like ZERO rhythm, plus I’m overtly opposed to being cold and damp.
So, in hopes of bracing myself for impending doom, I was suspicious of every email and every encounter with a friend. I thought surely this is the bad news I’ve been waiting for. I lingered on phone calls just a little longer, waiting for the Oh by the way…I’ve got some bad news. But the bad news never came. Instead, I found myself bombarded with good news (and lots of it!): A baby born, a test passed, a deal made, a race finished and a tumor shrinking.
I know, bad news will inevitably come again. But the good news about bad news is there’s an antidote for it—and it’s good news. If bad news is a storm, then good news is a windbreaker. Good news is a cushion, a brace, a shield. Good news softens the blow, so bad news isn’t all that bad. And I found that as soon as I stopped fearing the worst, I was able to appreciate the best. So bring on the howling wind and drenching rain—I’ve got on my windbreaker and I’m ready to dance!

That is wonderful news! My brother John left work at Carlsbad Lexus last Wednight night to be taken to the hospital after a bad headache. His MRI showed a brain tumor. He was then transported to Scripps La Jolla to have brain surgery on Thursday. They could only remove part of the tumor. He is not at home healing. His next appointment Monday will tell him what type of cancer it is and what his treament plan will be. John is only 52 and runs, bikes, climbs mountains, very active. Hoping he will have good news like you.

Sweet Hannah, I finally was able to stop from my challenged life and read your post. Timing is everything. So the incredible lesson it seems is that in order to put on the windbreaker of good news to face and buffer the bad… Is to put on the windbreaker… To see the good in life. How key that is, to be in the present and breath in the good. This is what speaks to me, to pause and fully take in all of the good, the blessings in life. This shouldn’t be hard but for some of us (me) it is a challenge… then I get swept away in the storms and suffer. Your post blessed a soul this morning, for that I am grateful. I am so sorry for this life challenge you and the family are enduring. So for today, the Nancarrows are helping all of us soldier on in life. We are like one big family, because your readers love you and your dear dad and all the family more as you all have invited us into your world and sharing your lessons of life. Bless you. There are certainly a lot of detials like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

Since there is so many fields of sceeialtips that I have a choice of, I still really can’t choose one. So I am going base on my personal experiences. My original goal back in high school and maybe even before that, was to work in a Neonatal ICU! I had a brother that passed before he had his first birthday from heart complications, and that year I spent a lot of time at hospitals with my parents. My goal the first couple of years was to work with babies just like him. That was until I had my own children, I would of still loved to have worked in that career field but the heart ache I would most likely endure when one of those babies did not make it home. I could not have handled!On to more positive experiences, I have worked with the elderly and Geriatrics interests me very much. Being surrounded with people that have lived a fulfilled life is so much more rewarding. Even though at times it is the ending stages of their lives, and it is sad when someone does pass. It’s less of a heartache to know that most of the time they are ready to move on. They are still very dependent on you and when you are able to help them with their needs that’s the most rewarding of all, plus you form a special relationship with the patients and their families.
Love this Hannah! Wish I could give you a big hug! Keep hanging in there and keep writing, you are so good at it! You must make your dad tear up every time he reads your blog! ❤

I have seen many useful tghnis on your site about computers. However, I have the judgment that notebook computers are still not nearly powerful adequately to be a good option if you often do jobs that require plenty of power, such as video editing and enhancing. But for net surfing, statement processing, and most other common computer work they are just fine, provided you can’t mind the tiny screen size. Thanks for sharing your notions.

Dear Majic, My name is Gail Hook and I am currently erllnoed in the Hospitality program at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne. During this fall semester the graduating senior class “Advance Food Service Management/ HTM 492” will be in charge of operating an Oktoberfest themed restaurant at the Holiday Inn located across from the Coliseum. We are open every Tuesday night -October 16th to December 4th from 5pm until 10 pm. HTM 492 is one of the most significant classes within the Hospitality program where emphasis is placed on utilizing effective management skills; creates a high-quality, profitable operation with well planned systems and highly motivated, organized employees. Simply put, it is the students’ opportunity to display what they have learned during their first semesters at IPFW.
