Support the Loren Nancarrow Healing Garden at Scripps

Hi Friends and Family,

Please join us in our support of a rooftop healing garden at the Scripps Radiation Treatment Center. With your help, we’ll be able to raise enough funds to name the garden “The Loren Nancarrow Healing Garden” and ensure a space for cancer patients and their families to find peace for years to come.

Thank you so much for your unwavering support, we are so very lucky to have each and every one of you in our lives.

    Loren,
I heard Susan Taylor’s interview on the radio about the two things you wanted good to come of your situation. She said, first, you wanted to thank all the people of Scripps and their wonderful efforts, and second, a tribute to something lasting and wonderful to come from of all this. I can’t agree with you more about the people of Scripps. They have been treating my family, mother, sister, brother, and myself, since they were located on Prospect Street. They are the best. As to the garden….this is perfect. The idea really rang true to Adela and me and it is so in keeping with your ideals and love for nature. I lost two members of my family to cancer and as a way to honor them, you, and Scripps, I would like to take you up on your offer of a bench for a $15,000. Please pass this along to someone I can contact.
You had an influence on my life and I thank you for it. You also influenced the snails in my backyard with the beer-in-the-pan thing. Every time they hear the whoosh of a pop-top, they’re gone.
If we can do anything for Susie or your family, please do not hesitate.
    With love and affection,
    Pete and Adela Peterson

Please give me more details as to how exactly this works and if there are any costs involved. Please don’t have anyone call me, just send me an email reply. Thank you. Sarah.

    • Hi Sarah,
At the moment, we are accepting monetary donations that will go directly to cancer patient care at Scripps. With enough funds raised, the garden will be named “The Loren Nancarrow Healing Garden.” We’ll keep everyone posted as we develop more opportunities to help support this incredible goal.
Thank you so much for reaching out.
      Hannah

  6. DONE!!! I couldn’t be happier to donate! You inspire me and make me realize my 6 surgeries for breast cancer and reconstruction is ‘a walk in the park’ compared to your ordeal. How awe-inspiring the garden will be for so many people to enjoy for decades and generations to come. Your legacy will live on forever! ((HUGS))

  7. Valerie Houlihan says:

As soon as I read your request I immediately donated -what a wonderful idea. I wish there were such caring, thoughtful people supporting cancer patients everywhere. My sister was diagnosed with brain cancer 3 years ago (glioma blastoma). Given just 6 months- she has confounded all the odds-such a fighter!Though she has a wonderful medical team at UCLA to have something like your garden would help us all so much. what a treasure it would be to sit an enjoy nature as a relief from the pain and sadness. We all need to refuel our energy supply with beauty and nature! Your website and blogs have been an inspiration. I looked to you every time I need a morale boost. Thank you for sharing your life!

  8. Mary Giovaniello says:

My husband was diagnosed with Stage Four in January. Your journey is less private than ours was but still as bitter and very sweet. Lauren and your family are in my thoughts each day. It is a gift to serve, and also a heartbreak. I donate in Laurens and my Clifford’s honor sending love and grace every day to you all…

  9. Kelly says:

Where do we make the donation directly for Loren’s garden? I clicked on the link but didn’t see anything for Loren. Thanks!!

    • Thanks so much for your support, Kelly. If you click the link once more, you’ll see an orange square in the upper right hand corner that says “Honor Loren Nancarrow” and a small blue button within that box that says “Make a Donation”. Thank you thank you thank you.

  10. Nenette Popiela-West says:

Of course I am making a donation. Happy Thanksgiving to your family and you are all in my prayers. Know that I wish all of you well with a lot of love and prayers. Hugs :))) ☺

    How is Loren?

  12. Pam Browning says:

One day as my father was dying from cancer he looked out his hospital room window on a rare stormy day in San Diego and said “I wish I could feel that rain on my face.” He helped me to remember to be grateful for the smallest things in life that make me happy. A garden like this would have given my Dad his wish.

  13. Beth Linge says:
