So, now you’ve got blue nails…

I rolled out of bed this morning laughing at the thought of my formerly-buttoned-down, conservative friends awaking to cobalt blue fingernails. The last couple days you’ve put on a lovely coat of polish and now you’re faced with actually living with the stuff. What the heck were you thinking?!

Still, the number of people painting their fingernails cobalt blue is growing and you can’t even imagine how much it makes me smile.

Our family’s view is that I’m going to be fine. So the blue nails, to me, represent others with far greater needs medically, financially, emotionally etc…This series of events has made me acutely aware of how fortunate I am for your support. As you admire your loved ones’ blue flare, first, tease them mercilessly, then, be amazed at the lengths to which they’ll go for others.

Please keep posting your pictures and we’ll keep adding them to the blog.

Then, there’s something else we’d like to add: I’m learning that many of you have the unique ability to guide meditation. I would love it if you would share video and/or audio clips that we can enjoy and pass along to others who are traveling similar paths. If you have some meditative thoughts you’d like to share, please post them to my Facebook Page. I look forward to hearing what you come up with and seeing more of your cobalt blue polish.

I have watched you for as many a year as you have been on tv and I can’t tell you how much it means that you are sharing your journey with us!!!I know of some people who have chose not to share theirs (that’s the way they can deal, I guess??) and I always thought if that happened to me I would share it since there are so many questions to ask!!!I was with my sister 6 years ago when she was diagnosed with Stage 1-2 Beast Cancer and by golley she beat it and as they say, she took one day at a time and it’s been 6 years, which they used to say you’re “cured’ at 5 ( I don ‘t know if they still say that?) but she is living her life (as crazy as it is with 3 teenage daughters) but maybe that means she is ‘alive”, boy it would me, my kids are grown adults with one having 3 daughters. But whatever you do I hope you know that we will be with you every step of the way. Be strong and we’ll be rooting for you and your family!!!!No reason to do this alone or suffer in silence, I always hated that saying, suffer in silence, thought it was so well glib!!!!

Loren, used blue Krylon! Not good! Now the entire hand is blue! FIGHT ON MY FRIEND! I know the treatment is tough..went through similar chemo-like treatment for 6 months to successfully rid my liver of Hep C. One day at a time as they say, but it’s true. Fight this until you can’t lift your arms anymore…and then know you’re friends and family will lift them for you! Very heartening to see how San Diegans and others are supporting you…you must feel genuinely loved. God Bless you..and shine His face upon you. Phil. 4:13

The great American painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish was a big fan of cobalt blue…I had one of his posters on my wall in college, what seems like several hundred years ago. Kr

I’m a cancer survivor, which you will be announcing also. I don’t know if you find this link interesting, but I kind of did. Interesting not because they are “stars,” but because they are people we have all pretty much heard about so we feel a little familiar with, and they have successful stories to share with us. http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-body/pictures/stars-who-beat-cancer-20101110/10587 Like you, Loren, you haven’t met most of us in San Diego, but we feel we know you. San Diego cares about you.

  12. Lisa Winston says:

Loren, I’d love to send you a CD/DVD for some simple QiGong meditations and movements that have helped ME through cancer. They really work. Many other things are great too, you just need to find the ones that feel right to you. Send to the station??? xxoo

I jumped on this trend quick and it was to support a man and family I can’t imagine our community growing old without. But the comments since and the smile on faces when they hear is awesome. Community is not defined by fences and roads we drive upon, but by the emotional bonds that define us– and the Nancarrows have made them so much stronger in the past two weeks. And for some reason, I just keep blasting “I WIll Survive” on my iPod through Cardiff. Yes, that’s me….. Shhhhh……

  14. Sarah D says:

Lovin’ all the Cobalt blue in honor of you Loren! I’m going Cobalt on the nails and toes this week for you! If I didn’t just go back to work, I consider the hair too! So glad to see that smile and that you are on the road to recovery. Best wishes to you and your family 🙂
@David – You can go to ANY nail salon and they have the blue!!

  15. KrisbyAnn says:

  16. Boyz! you PAINT a house, you POLISH your nails 😉 Being a Chargers fan, I always have blue polish on hand (no pun intended) ..LOL…I’m going blue…just for you! 🙂

  17. Cara Kent says:

Don and I are heading out to the cobalt blue Pacific in the morning whale watching with the Hubbs group. Walking on the Olivenhain horse burm this morning where I last saw you on horseback, Don recalled all of us together whale watching long before all our kids were born. Wow. Maythe strength and spirit of the whales be yours. Love to all, Cara and Don

If you want to nourish your body with an incredible insanely healthy energy drink give this a try.
It’s not like the energy drinks out there that make your heart race, this is actually good for you.
If you lived closer i would give you a few to try.
And i am painting my nails blue next week for you!
I will send you a picture when I do.
    My best always, Bj Ross

    Loren,
We haven’t met but I’m friends with Roy and Robin and Bill and Sunni and a fellow Cardiffian. My sister was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma in 1980 and given a 6 month- 2 year diagnosis. She lived for 18 years. We had an amazing journey. I’ll join you in virtual cobalt nails.
