Reporting Live From Hell

This is Loren Nancarrow, reporting live from hell…

The hospital has a lot of devices — most of them meant to inflict pain. They say they’ll help you — but they hurt you. To say I’ve been poked and prodded is a vast understatement. 7 days now and they show no sign of letting up — but I’m not gonna let ‘em win.

Hold on…my blood pressure monitor just went off – they’re winning for the moment, but the bastards can’t have me yet.

This challenging visit has reminded me how real this is, but it has also hardened me for the fight ahead. I don’t have a lot of energy to carry on today except to say that if you’ve got cancer: DON’T FREAKING GIVE UP.

I know they’ll spring me from this place feeling better and ready to carry on. And by the way, September 21st is coming (the SDBTF 5k in Point Loma). If I can be there…so can you.

Thanks for everything,

Loren

Will keep you in my prayers old friend. You can beat this. You are a fighter, and a good soul – with many, many prayers behind you in this battle. With all the people here leaving you such wonderful messages of hope, and comfort, keep your faith strong and know that you are beloved and we are all rooting for you. Keep being the wonderful person you are.

    All my best to you,
from Tina (who used to work at the tux shop across from KFMB)

  2. Jan's avatar Jan says:

Loren…remember the words of Winston Churchill…Never, Never, Never Give Up!

  3. Marna M.'s avatar Marna M. says:

Loren, with your attitude, and determination you WILL beat cancer. You are loved by thousands of San Diegans who care about you. And you are an inspirations to us all.

  4. Tricia Olson's avatar Tricia Olson says:

I’m extremely saddened by what you are going through! I’ve tried and no one answers….I’ve tried!!!! My heart hurts!

  5. jayne mobley dunn's avatar jayne mobley dunn says:

your honesty and love flow so beautifully thru every piece you write and then so kindly share with us …. thank you Loren for trusting us with your journey ❤

  6. Monica Way's avatar Monica Way says:

Loren, gosh…thank you sooo very much for sharing you’re true feelings. I bet this sucks and sucks ever more….there aren’t words that I could say, nor another persons words..to simply, make you fell better. Um, I happen to be losing my 4th and 5th…..dearest friends, over the last 3 years. Yup. However, you’ve somehow have assisted me..with you’re positiveness AND YOU’RE truthful account of you’re pain. Thanks and God bless YOU!!!
And you’re family!’ I hope you understand how IMPORTANT you have been…over the years…in San Diego, with you’re holistic knowledge,,,,way, before…years before, anyone of us knew…what “holistic” meant!!!! Your’e Susie and youre beloved children and YOU are simply an inspiration, to not only San Diego…but, too America. I happen to know …that I do not speak alone…….their are many, many….who listen. Loren….” we” need you…If that is a burden….then, “we” get it. Do what you need to do. You are loved. Period. Amen.

  7. Been there and done that as the saying goes Loren. Keep in mind Loren all this pain and prodding you’re experiencing is to help you get better. The people doing these things to you probably go home after work and either cry or drink to forget the suffering they have seen or given as a result of their duties.
My biggest complaint during my stays in the hospital was the deep feeling of, what I call, “being separated from the herd” . There is a certain sense of isolation one feels that a visitor or two makes up for. You have a wonderful and devoted family, you also have thousands of people praying and pulling for you, you still are a well known person of San Diego. We love ya man! Hang tough. If anyone can get thru this it’s you.

  8. Sandy Argo's avatar Sandy Argo says:

Another word from you on your journey,an inspiration to us all,and I send another prayer your way for comfort and peace of mind from the machines and the medicines-a moment of quiet meditation so all you hear is the sound of Angel wings hovering around you with healing and protection.Loving blessings to all of you til next visit

  9. Unknown's avatar Anonymous says:

GO FOR IT!!! YOU CAN BEAT THIS!!! Our prayers, and great vibes and wishes are with you!

  10. Sally Conrad's avatar Sally Conrad says:

While taking care of my husband during his treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma someone sent us this quote. It challenged us (like we needed any more of that!) to continue choosing new perspectives.
“When you are in the cellar of affliction, look for the Master’s choicest wines.” Blessings of peace be upon you.

  11. Unknown's avatar Anonymous says:

Be well & be strong, My Friend!

  12. Mary's avatar Mary says:

Loren!! You are in the hospital and you are suppose to be resting and gaining your strength, not trying to fight the machines!! Arnold Schwartzenager isn’t around to spring you!! Glad you were able to impart your infinite humor. Keep it up. I Susie is sneaking you in something tasty to get your spirits up. Hang in there and don’t speak to loudly…the machines can hear you….

  13. Angela's avatar Angela says:

With so many of us thinking of you, Loren, and sending strength your way, I know you will beat this thing! You are giving hope to so many! Visualize armies of little soldiers destroying those bad cancer cells… Hang in, and know that all of San Diego is wishing for better times ahead for you and your family. xxoo

  14. I have multiple myeloma and I’m fighting this cancer with treatments at the moment. There is no cure but hopefully can go thru remission. Just for the last 3 months don’t know what to expect yet. But joining support groups to learn more. Positive is all we can do and live every day with hope and happiness the best we can. You are a brave and great person. You will win this Hugs ,prayers to you family and all your caring friends. XX00. Marilyn Mulloy

  15. Nenette Popiela-West's avatar Nenette Popiela-West says:

Sending you love and hugs and good wishes. I am so sorry you have to go through hell to get better. You are going to beat this Loren. Don’t let cancer get the best of you. This is only for a short time. You will win this battle, so many of us are rooting for you. Praying that you will be feeling much better soon. Sept. 21 is my birthday. I hope to be there with you and your family. Good positive thoughts and prayers are being sent your way. We love you and wish you and your family well as always. Hang in there, it will be better.

Loren, stay positive and don’t give up!
Get your 215 card and light up!
    The miracle of cannabis has
helped me in my fight with testicular cancer.
When I was too weak to smoke my Dr. gave me
oil to apply to the general area
and things are getting much better.

You are so awesome Loren! Thank you for your words of encouragement and for sharing your journey as you kick cancers ass. You inspire me. I love reading the comments of the people here who love you. We all reflect back to you your amazing chutzpah and guts. You are surrounded by angels who send you a piece of our hearts and truckloads of our own power for you to use in your fight. I am fighting neuroendocrine cancer too (as you know!) and I LOVE YOUR POSTS! I am going to write a song about you. I have some ideas in my head. — “The man who tells us all if its rain or shine – His biggest talent is the power of his mind. Courage and power surround you day and night. Long live Loren. You will win this fight.” LOVE TO YOU AND ALL WHO READ THIS AND LOVE YOU TOO.

What an awesome post this is! I have seen you perform several times, and am also Dana Gordon’s cousin. The music community is small here; many of my friends are musicians. I had no idea that you, too, are fighting cancer. Every word that you have posted for Loren, goes right back to you, so soak up that good energy. Whether or not the community/universe has cancer is not what’s important; we are all in this together. Wishing you well, collectively and independently. Best, Bonnie Jordan

Love you Loren………..you and your family have deeply touched my heart as well as so many others. Strength, wisdom, grace, humility, love, honesty, and an amazing sense of humor in the midst of such difficulty. Shows the true Essence of one’s being. You are so beautiful. Thank you (and your wonderful family) for sharing the journey. You have already won the battle in so many ways. I also see you aligned with the Universal “wellness” and perfection that you already are. Big hugs – and if you need someone to beat up the ICU staff, call me. I saw what they did to my dad, and I’m still pissed in a big way. xxoo

I am hoping for the best for you and thanks for sharing your journey.
